We’re delighted to announce we have been shortlisted for Hidden Homeless, an ideas contest for innovative housing solutions aimed at the large numbers of ‘hidden homeless’ in London. The competition, set up by the New Horizon Youth Centre in collaboration with Colander, aims to identify ‘durable, functional and serviceable’ concepts which could potentially be delivered across several sites in the capital and help the estimated 300,000 people currently living in such conditions across London.
The brief was to propose design ideas for a short stay homeless shelter for young adults at risk of living on the streets. The brief comprised of two main elements: the shelter accommodation and a commercial element that would allow the shelter to be financially sustainable.
Our project proposal “B L O O M” aims at creating a sanctuary for young people of all backgrounds; a place that facilitates everyone getting a good start in life. We think that this could be best achieved through co-living, greenification, community outreach, good design and sustainability.
