MyLounge in Gatwick Airport’s South terminal takes the design from the previous MyLounge Project and steps it up a notch. The lounge is divided up by glazed screens which create a range of varied spaces so that visitors can choose the lounge experience that suits them. This vibrant, relaxed and social space creates an atmosphere reminiscent of home comforts and offers a welcome break from the stresses of air travel.
Lighting, acoustics, colour & texture were the fundamental design drivers in developing this casual and playful space. The relationships between the spaces of the games room, dens, TV lounge and dining room help define the character of the lounge; while the Scandinavian industrial design influence creates a sense of warmth and familiarity.
We worked closely with the client to produce an inclusive design that was both informal and refined so that anyone would feel welcome, whatever their age. The bold colours and tactile surfaces were chosen to create a characterful space, contrasting with the sterile airport environment. A good relationship with the contractor helped overcome the technical challenges of working within Gatwick Airport and has enabled the delivery of a project of the highest quality.
“A creative and professional team always willing to go the extra mile to get things done.”
