The proposed development is for the provision of 61 studio units within the envelope of the existing office building obtained by Prior Approval that establishes its change of use from the existing B1(a) office use to C3 residential use.
A new contemporary rooftop addition of 9 new residential apartments is also proposed to provide high quality accommodation for new residents within the community, to encourage the continued use of this landmark building, and make a positive contribution
to the streetscape of Clapham Common North Side and the surrounding area.
The design of the rooftop addition seeks to complement the existing building but differentiate itself in contrast to the bold and decorative classical façade, so that it is lightweight, unfussy but refined in its detail. The proposal seeks to be of appropriate scale for the existing building and neighbouring buildings, to respond appropriately to the site and its orientation, and to be designed to maximise views of the common and receive natural daylight.
