Due to the high demand for space in this lounge at LGW North, No1 appointed InsideOut once again to design the extension and refurbishment of the lounge, originally completed in 2011. The bistro has been extended considerably and the bar re-imagined as the centrepiece for passengers entering the lounge. Additional lounge seating was created to meet capacity demands, which meant having to remove more niche spaces like the cinema, games room etc. whilst maintaining the brand’s ambition to create a variety of space types for passengers to choose from depending on their mood.
The phasing of this build provided a complex challenge for us and the build team. InsideOut’s role extended beyond that of architects and contract administrators, acting as project managers co-ordinating client-direct contractors and master-planning the phasing of the works. Towards the end of the build, we had a daily site presence to ensure that any issues that contractors had were dealt with immediately and would not compromise on the opening date.
The works were carried out in multiple phases to allow the lounge to remain open to passengers, which created a challenging sequence of works for the contractor and InsideOut.
