Our choice of materials for this project aimed to create a calm and sophisticated series of spaces, incorporating the clients’ existing furniture in a clever and efficient way.
At the heart of the project was a joinery box containing the main bathroom, surrounded by a series of opening storage and functional secrets. This box divided a triangular space to create a kitchen on one side and a small gallery on the other. This creates an intimate sense of arrival into the flat before opening out into a light and spacious corner living space, with simple details allowing the already dramatic ceiling geometry to dominate.
It was gratifying to work on two residential projects side-by-side, but with very different briefs. The unusual triangular shape of this space created a challenge to incorporate all the client’s requirements without compromising on the existing drama of the space. The simple-looking yet multi-functional joinery box has a wonderful material quality that complements and enhances the concrete ceiling structure. No space within this loft is wasted, with any left-over areas incorporated into storage or service zones.
