We are very proud to announce that our latest multi-unit residential scheme has reached practical completion. We were going to wait to share this news once professional photos were taken; however we are so excited, we couldn’t wait any longer.
This development of 19 flats and 3 townhouses is tucked away on a quiet residential street in West Norwood, London. On the tight and steeply sloping site, dense development was central to the client’s brief. Through inventive structural and circulation strategies, this challenge ultimately provided an opportunity, as the team was able to nestle the bulk of the development into the hillside, maximising density while remaining sympathetic to the neighbours.
The dense and efficient street block was expressed as a pure `cube’, animated by the playful arrangement of deep recessed windows and splayed reveals. Subterranean services and parking make use of the basement while creating a communal terrace above. With summer just around the corner, we hope the residents will be able to enjoy this additional external space for BBQs and relaxing in the sun. At the rear of the site, a mews of family homes makes the most of the falling landscape, opening out onto private gardens surrounded by mature trees.
The interior is just as exciting, with exposed concrete walls dramatically lit by a large rooflight in the sun-drenched stairwell and framed views of the landscaped terrace from the street block above.
We would like to give Kaymac Construction credit for the excellent execution and cooperative relationship, which was key in resolving complex construction details and improved buildability.
Keep an eye out on our website or in our future newsletters for the premiere release of this multi-unit residential scheme and let us know what you think.
