We have recently been commissioned to design and advise on the sensitive refurbishment of a Grade II listed pub in the South Downs National Park.
Uniquely, we began design work on this multi-phased project during the Coronavirus lockdown, when the pub was required to cease trading. As such, during design-development we worked closely with the client/operator to develop the strategy for a ‘socially-distanced’ reopening and to future-proof proposals to encourage more external dining, which has increased the seating capacity to enable the pub’s long-term survival. The pub has also started to offer takeaway food and drinks, bringing forward a part of its ambition to provide a local store and deli.
As the only pub in a small village, it is a valuable community asset. In the spirit of this, work packages are being let to local tradesmen instead of larger contractors and a local sculptor is being commissioned to design new signage and artworks.
Alongside the architectural package, InsideOut are developing the interior design, joinery and external landscaping drawings. Watch this space for more updates as this exciting project progresses.
